Canopy by Hilton Charlotte Southpark Wedding

This wedding was a gorgeous, modern elegant yet minimalist wedding in Charlotte, NC at the Canopy by Hilton. Dexter & Colleen tied the knot in front of their closest friends and family

As you guys know by now, I still love photographing weddings. There's so much love in the air and the bride and groom spent so much time carefully planning all the details. It was not any different for Dexter & Colleen's wedding, either!

The wedding was at a brand new venue located in Charlotte called Canopy Hilton. The reception was also hosted there and was catered by the hotel. There were so many places for the bride and groom to get ready it kept everyone on track and in the same place.

Colleen's favorite part of the planning process was the "planning dates" between her and Dexter. They would go to a bar, restaurant or coffee shop and tug their laptop along. There they would of course enjoy refreshments and discuss the wedding. It made it much less daunting when it came to planning the job. Almost made it more of a project more than anything else.

With all the craziness about COVID, it was touch and on her wedding, where would it take place and such. The Gleasons had originally booked a venue in Uptown Charlotte that they had been referred to. But then the restrictions really came into effect (and 3 months before the wedding day). They basically had to start all over again. It was unbelievably stressful. Colleen frequented the Charlotte Wedding Connection Facebook Page we were both a part of and she asked for recommendations. A lovely soul came through and recommended the Canopy by Hilton in Southpark. They toured, loved it and signed the contract that very same week!

When I asked Colleen what her favorite part of the wedding was, she said:
“100% absolutely no doubts, my favorite part was the ceremony. It felt so surreal and like time stood still, being able to have my brother officiate our wedding and reading our own vows to one another in front of family and friends made our hearts so full. During that 20-minute ceremony, we didn't have one single thought about COVID or politics or any other stress - it felt like a dream and could not have been more perfect.”

Colleen & Dexter gave some sound advice for future couples moving forward, don't sweat the small stuff! For them, this didn't mean to not focus on the details but lean into it. They added so many personal and small touches throughout the wedding. They make a conscious effort to not "sweat the things you cannot control". When either one of them would get stressed out or overwhelmed, they would ask themselves the question "will this affect our marriage?". If not then they let it go, they wanted to "focus on what the real purpose of the day was.. to get married to one another".

As you go through Dexter and Colleens wedding photo below, you could tell they were really having the time of their lives/loving every minute of their special day surrounded by family and friends who loved them.

As for me, one of my personal favorite moments of the wedding was getting to witness both the bride and groom opening their presents to each other. If you don't do a first look, I HIGHLY recommend this!. Okay, enough talk... I know you guys have been chomping at the bit to see the photos. ENJOY!
